Bioinformatics Scientist

Permanent employee, Full-time · Vilnius, Office

Introduction
At Biomatter we believe that the unlimited capability to design new enzymes will unlock world's capability to build a better tomorrow for everyone. For this reason, we have built the transformative Intelligent Architecture Platform™ for enzyme design, powered by Generative AI & Physics. Together with our partners we create unique enzymes that act as the key  puzzle pieces in novel technologies aimed at addressing the most pressing sustainability and health issues.

As a Bioinformatics Scientist you will work alongside computational chemistry and experimental scientists to design novel proteins. You will also participate in the development of our protein design platform by generating ideas and directions for new tools and features.
Responsibilities
  • Working in a team to engineer new enzymes by applying in-house developed tools, together with other data science and statistics-based approaches.

  • Supporting the development of new workflows and algorithms.

  • Participating in brainstorms, proposing ideas for novel tools or applications, and driving those ideas through development.

  • Critically evaluating data generated by the experimental group and incorporating this knowledge into the design of improved protein variants.

  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of all work.

Minimum qualifications
  • Ph.D. or B.Sc./M.Sc. with 3 years of industry/academia experience in bioinformatics, structural biology, or other fields related to computational protein engineering.

  • Skilled at rapidly analyzing scientific literature on new enzymes, and recognizing the main challenges and risks associated with their engineering and application.

  • Good understanding of protein behavior in vitro, and troubleshooting potential issues.

  • Comfortable with popular protein sequence and structure analysis command-line tools, and Unix systems.

  • Comfortable with Python and data analysis.

  • Knowledge of collaborative software development best practices, including version control, test-driven development, and good documentation habits.

  • Excellent communication, reporting, and writing skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications
  • Industrial experience in applying computational biology to biological discovery and product development.

  • Track record of publications in high-impact journals and presentations at scientific meetings, demonstrating the ability to design new or improved proteins.

  • Expertise in protein-ligand interaction modeling.

  • Proficient in utilizing available biological data for computational modeling and deep learning.

  • Experience with in vitro selection within protein engineering e.g. directed evolution, high-throughput screening, or other.
Our offer
  • An opportunity to join an innovative startup that is pioneering the game-changing technology for protein design.
  • Work environment in which you can develop your talent and realize ideas and innovations within a competent team.
  • Flexible working arrangements: with core hours of 10 am-4 pm, you can choose a pattern that works for you.
  • Gross salary range for this position is 2000-5000€/month.
