Bioinformatics Scientist

Permanent employee, Full-time · Vilnius

Introduction
As a Bioinformatics Scientist you will work alongside computational protein engineers and experimental scientists to support the engineering of novel proteins. To this end you will leverage data science techniques based on sequence and structure statistics. You will also participate in the development of our protein design platform by generating ideas and directions for new tools and features.
Responsibilities
  • Engineering new proteins by applying in-house developed tools, together with other data science and statistics-based approaches.
  • Supporting the development of new workflows and algorithms.
  • Participating in brainstorms, proposing ideas for novel tools or applications, and driving those ideas through feasibility studies.
  • Critically evaluating data generated by the experimental group and incorporating this knowledge into the design of improved protein variants.
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of all work.
  • Preparing and presenting the results to the team and other stakeholders.
Minimum qualifications
  • Experience with protein sequence analysis and database search tools (e.g. HHblits, HMMER, Blast).
  • Experience with protein visualization software (e.g. PyMOL, Chimera, VMD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with popular bioinformatics command-line tools.
  • Strong experience in the use of a high-level programming language such as R, Python or Perl for data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Unix type systems.
  • General computational biology skills: mathematical modeling, algorithm development, statistics, high performance computing.
  • Knowledge of best practices for collaborative software development (version control systems, test-driven development, good documentation habits).
  • Excellent communication, reporting and writing skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with protein modeling and protein-ligand interaction predictions.
  • Industry experience applying computational biology to biological discovery and product development.
  • Experience in computational protein engineering.
  • Experience with building and execution of bioinformatics pipelines.
Our offer
  • An opportunity to join an innovative startup that is pioneering the game-changing technology for protein design.
  • Work environment in which you can develop your talent and realize ideas and innovations within a competent team.
  • Flexible working arrangements: with core hours of 10am-4pm, you can choose a pattern that works for you.
  • Gross salary range for this position is 2000-4000€/month.
