Computational Protein Engineer

Introduction
We're searching for a ​creative and motivated Computational Protein Engineer ​with ​a strong background in protein design. In this position, you will work alongside ​computational and experimental ​scientists to engineer novel proteins. You will also work ​participate in the development and validation of new computational pipelines ​for our protein design platform.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply state of the art computational protein engineering tools to design new or improved proteins.
  • Provide solutions to various protein engineering project related problems.
  • Critically evaluating data generated by the experimental group and incorporating this knowledge into the design of improved protein variants.
  • Preparing and presenting the results to the team and other stakeholders.
  • Identify new applications or areas for computational protein engineering and implement these into design workflows.
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of all work.

Minimum qualifications
  • Ph. D. (or Bsc./Msc. with 3 years of industry/academia experience) in bioinformatics, structural biology, life sciences or other relevant areas with strong expertise in computational protein engineering. 
  • Solid knowledge of protein biochemistry, biophysics and enzymology.
  • In-depth experience in designing new or improved functions and properties of proteins (e.g. novel enzymatic reaction or improved thermostability).
  • Highly skilled and experienced using protein modelling software such as Rosetta or Schrodinger suite.
  • Good knowledge of molecular modeling techniques like molecular dynamics simulations, homology modeling, protein descriptors calculations
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications
  • Expertise in one or more commonly used molecular modeling software packages. 
  • Solid programming and scripting skills (e.g. Python, R) and experience with statistical analysis and data science techniques.
  • Experience with experiments within protein engineering e.g. directed evolution, high-throughput screening or other.
  • Working knowledge of bioinformatics and databases.
  • Experience with cloud or high-performance computing (e.g. AWS, GCP).
  • Track record of publications in high-impact journals and presentations at scientific meetings, demonstrating the ability to design new or improved proteins.
